Frequently asked questions
Where is my data?
Only on your device. SOAP Notes has no account and no server, so your client records are never sent to us or anyone else. The system encrypts them while your device is locked, as long as it has a passcode, and you can lock the app itself in Settings → Security.
A copy exists somewhere else only if you make one: a backup file you save, or the automatic backup if you turn it on. See the Privacy Policy for details.
How do I move to a new phone?
On the old phone, open Settings → Backup → Create backup file and save the file somewhere the new phone can reach — iCloud Drive, Google Drive, a computer, or email it to yourself. On the new phone, install SOAP Notes and choose Settings → Backup → Restore from backup.
If automatic backup is on, the new device can restore the latest daily file straight away with your passphrase. Backup files use the same format on iPhone, iPad and Android.
What happens if I lose my phone?
Records on the lost phone stay protected by its passcode and the app lock. Install SOAP Notes on your new device and restore your most recent backup.
Automatic backup (Premium) keeps one encrypted copy, replaced each day, in iCloud Drive on iPhone and iPad or in a folder you choose on Android. Without it, the app reminds you when your last backup is more than a week old. If there is no backup, there is no copy anywhere — not even with us — so please keep one.
What happens if the app is discontinued?
Your records stay readable. Exporting is always free, on every plan: Settings → Backup → Export gives you clients, session notes and payments as CSV, and everything as JSON — open formats that spreadsheets and other software can read. You can also save any record as a PDF.
Can I use SOAP Notes on two devices, like an iPad at the clinic and an iPhone?
Yes, through backups. Records do not sync live between devices. Turn on automatic backup on the device you write on; on the other device, tap Settings → Backup → Update from latest backup and choose Merge with this device to bring it up to date without losing anything written there.
I forgot my backup passphrase.
An encrypted backup cannot be opened without its passphrase — not by you, and not by us. That is what keeps it safe if someone else gets the file. Your records on the device itself are not affected: make a new backup with a new passphrase.
How do I restore a purchase or ask for a refund?
Open the Premium screen from the top of Settings and tap Restore. Purchases are handled by Apple or Google, so refunds go through them: on iPhone and iPad use reportaproblem.apple.com; on Android open Google Play → your profile → Payments & subscriptions.
