Chore Jar — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-10-01

Chore Jar is a chore chart and allowance book for families, used on a parent's phone or a family tablet. Everything you and your kids enter is stored only on that device. There is no account, no sign-in and no server. We never see your family's information.

What stays on your device

The operating system encrypts this storage while your device is locked, as long as the device has a passcode. The parent area is protected by your parent PIN (and Face ID or fingerprint if you turn it on) and locks itself when the app goes to the background.

What leaves your device

Only files you make and send yourself:

They leave the device only when you share or save them. Where they go (Messages, Mail, Files, a cloud drive) is your choice and is governed by that service's own policy.

Automatic backup makes one copy a day when something changed and keeps the last seven. On iPhone and iPad they go to the app's folder in your own iCloud Drive; on Android they stay on the device. Backup files are not encrypted, so keep them where you would keep other family documents.

What we collect

Anonymous usage statistics and crash reports from the parent area, through Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics: which screens are opened, which features are used (for example "a chore was approved" or "a recap was exported"), counts in broad ranges, and technical details of crashes. These never contain names, photos, notes, amounts or anything else you type. They are not linked to your identity, are not used for advertising and are not sold. Kid Mode sends nothing on its own. Test builds send no usage statistics.

Chore Jar shows no ads and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Children

Kids use Chore Jar in Kid Mode on a device a parent sets up and hands over. We do not collect personal information from children: their names, photos and chores stay on the device. Kid Mode has no ads, no purchases, no links out of the app and no way into the parent area without the parent PIN.

Purchases

Premium is bought through the App Store or Google Play, only from the parent area. They handle the payment; we receive no card or billing details, only whether a purchase is active.

Permissions

Each is asked for only when you first use the feature that needs it:

Retention and deletion

Your information stays on the device until you delete it. On the free plan, proof photos are removed after 90 days; the chores themselves and the money record stay. Archiving a kid keeps their history; deleting the app deletes everything in it — make a backup first.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
